Inclusion at St John’s

As a school we are dedicated to inclusive practice. This is reflected very strongly in our school ethos and values.

In November 2015 we were delighted that our commitment to promote inclusion was recognised when we were re-accredited for the Bath and North East Somerset Inclusion Quality Award.

As part of Inclusion at St.Johns we work with a variety of schools and agencies. Our links with the Speech & Language Therapy, Educational Psychology and Occupational Therapy services are very strong. We also work closely with the local secondary schools and are able to offer master classes in English, Maths and Science ensuring that all pupils are appropriately challenged.

Koinonia

The original Greek word means ‘fellowship’ or ‘community’ and emphasises the importance of this concept within the Christian faith and expresses the quality of the relationships we share. We are all members of the same family – God’s family. Every child and adult is special and is seen as an important part of our school community. Each member of St John’s is represented by a selected pebble brought together in this communal bowl. As someone new joins our community, a pebble is added. Those who leave, take their pebble with them to remind them of the fellowship they have shared and the special partnerships they have enjoyed.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At St John’s we strive to support all our children and enable them to reach their full potential at school. Alongside quality first teaching and a rich curriculum, we may provide additional and different provision in order to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

All interventions and additional provisions are set according to the individual needs of the child and are monitored and adapted regularly by the SENCo, class teacher and support staff.
