Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Year 1 Welcome Letter

We have developed a booklet which provides information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for children in our school. Staff have identified these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child must meet in order to ensure continued progress throughout the following year.

Year 1 visit to Carymoor Environmental Centre

Our Year 1’s had a fantastic educational visit to Carymoor.  They became wildlife detectives for the day, exploring our topic of “Who lives in a place like this?”.

The children saw many native species in their habitats, including grass snakes (parents and a baby!), a shrew, huge ants nests, caterpillars, birds and many dragonflies. In the wood circle, we even managed to hear UK native birds returning the calls from our toy birds, which was magical. We undertook many scientific skills of exploring, categorising and identifying animals and minibeasts, as well as understanding how animals adapt themselves to their habitats.

We all had a wonderful day and the Year 1 staff were very proud of our children. It was super to see their inquisitive minds in action. Huge thanks must go to our parent helpers for coming with us and helping to make the day such a lovely experience for our children.
